Daisy’s Run by Scott Baron is the first book in The Clockwork Chimera Series. It is a science fiction novel intriguing enough to pull in most any reader. Based in a spaceship, the story begins with the artificial intelligence's on board discussing whether to wake the nine crew members out of cryo-sleep due to a possible fire on board. They decide that it is for the best, because some of Mal’s electronics were damaged and she cannot find the source of the fire. The crew is awoken to chaos and having to search the ship for where the fire may be and if the ship has taken any damage.

Daisy finds that many of the people she is traveling with have augmented body parts, but all of them grow closer throughout their time traveling. During the first few days, the crew is tasked to find any damage and fix any issues that may have been caused due to the unknown fire which brings them all together. Daisy is tested and must determine whether to continue to trust in her crew mates, especially in the face of danger.

Daisy’s Run starts with wordy and lengthy sentences, which were difficult to follow. However, it picks up nicely and the author’s writing style pulls you into the relationships of the crew members and how they all work together cohesively. Towards the end, the writing style seems to slow and provide more detail of the area surrounding Daisy and the difficulties she is facing during her travels.

One thing I really liked was that the author’s writing style allows the reader to visualize the ship and the people in a way that keeps the reader drawn into the story. I grew to love the characters and their backgrounds and wanted to know more about each person. When their heart breaks, the writing style is so eloquent that your heart will break with them as well. There was nothing that I disliked about the book. The book is extremely well written, and the story line is captivating.

I would give this book 4 out of 4 stars. The plot was stimulating, and the writing style of the author keeps you engaged. This book is meant for anyone who loves science fiction, space, or artificial intelligence. The story line is set up well to make the reader want to continue to the next book in the series. I believe anyone from young adult to adult would love this book. However, there is profanity and mild erotic scenes that may not be adequate for younger readers.
