Review by writestuff -- The Queen of Xana by Fred Pilcher
Fred Pilcher-The Queen of Xana
Once apon a time there was a beatiful young Princess named Agatha;who was kind and wise and the star of this alagory. Legend comes to life as the story is told in a way that makes the reader feel you're being let in on a secret.
Be prepared to think out of the box while reading. Certain aspects such as when and where sex is had, in Xana are treated in a completely diffrent light. Though this is an adult read it only touches briefly on adult content and isn't too explicit.
We start our tale with Princess Agatha as a young lady who is already learning the inner workings of the land she is to rule one day. The Princess grows into a kind adult who cares for the people and who is shocked by their suffering.
The nobles including her mother Queen Julia don't share her concern for the people's poverty but The Princess does what she can. Soon a great evil sweeps the land spreading disease and sorrow throughout.
The evil sorcerer Magi not only murders and pillages all in his path but has his eyes on The Princess Agatha. Luckily Agatha is helped by her fairy godmother and is protected. However the people of Xana suffer under Magi's invasion.
Agatha, now Queen after protecting her land grows as does every corner she reigns in. Being strict but filled with love for her land and people you get transported to a kingdom any of us would love to be part of.
Xana is a rich, prosperous land with a brilliant army and educational programmes that lead to skilled, happy subjects that improve the land yet more and more.
The story takes you through a lifetime of children growing in a nuturing enviroment to serve Queen and country. With the guidence of their wise ruler we follow many of her subjects who meet her as children and florish as they grow older.
This is a charming story and an example of what true leadership can do for people and country.
I give this book 3 out of 4 stars. This is a good story that is really well edited. I gave the book three stars since I think it just feels a little disconnected and cannot give four. I do think I would give it a 3.5 as it is unique and does make you wonder how it ends. A strong and gifted ruler one can just marvel at the young Queen Agatha.
What I liked most was that it was an untold tale. Some parts of the legend are jaw-dropping. What I liked least was that I felt it could have had a few more detailed personal touches.
This book can appeal to anybody who enjoys historical stories and what royals in distant lands get up to. Its also a great story for young women as it speaks of individualism and self belief.
