Having witnessed a state of utter mayhem and devastation in the once prosperous city of Virko, Galen Bray and his comrades have no other option other than to pay a visit to the kingdom’s capitol, Soulhire and seek help. However, the seemingly serene and tranquil city has other grave matters to attend to such as the ongoing trial called ‘Shore Against Soulhire’. The trial, set to determine the fate of refugees from the war-stricken Lands of the Princes, is the perfect opportunity for Galen, Rowan, and Demetrius to be in close proximity of King Wilhelm Arcolo.

We Are Voulhire: Someone Else’s End by Matthew Tysz takes the audience on a riveting journey manoeuvring past the lives of the people of the great Voulhirian kingdom. Will Galen Bray, a refugee himself, be able to affect the outcome of ‘Shore Against Soulhire’? Will Lord Meldorath be able to achieve his selfish objectives? How will the Emperor of the Lullabies, a man with extraordinary cosmic abilities react to Voulhire’s decision regarding the destiny of his people?

Matthew Tysz employs excellent diction and adequate humour in his writing style, which amalgamated with a brilliant plot makes the novel a wonderful read. Besides, the author describes every incident so intricately that the reader feels as if he/she is right there with the characters, experiencing what they experience. Considering that this novel is third in a series of books, Matthew Tysz has done an excellent job keeping the readers interested. This is achieved by introducing a minor change to the author’s preferred manner of storytelling. For instance, in this book, there are places where a character other than the protagonist, Galen, is talking directly to the readers unlike the two preceding novels where Galen is the only one who talks in first person. Another thing about the novel that is possibly my favourite aspect is the fact that scenes switch frequently keeping the monotony away. As existing events are concluded, new chapters are revealed. There’s no one particular agenda of the characters that the story sticks with; goals and events keep evolving like the characters themselves.

I would rate this book a 3 out of 4 stars on pretext of its extremely gripping nature and an ever-evolving plot. Besides, Matthew Tysz succeeds in the difficult task of keeping a fantasy novel realistic. However, a huge downside of the book is the poor editing. The book doesn’t look professionally edited at all with frequent typos and grammatical errors.

I would recommend We Are Voulhire: Someone Else’s End to readers who are interested in the medieval fantasy genre and are looking for unpredictable stories full of thrill and surprises. This book is inappropriate for children of younger age groups as it contains the use of bold language in quite a few places.
