The King of May by Matthew Tysz is a sequel to the author's other book, The Turn. If you haven't read The Turn, I suggest you get to it first so as to get the flow of the story.

The King of May shows us what happens after the completion of The Turn novel. The characters now have grown. Ashley and Scholar have become significant in the story and are well known. New characters are also introduced and they are also interesting. As readers, we come to understand that the person who made the Turn possible instigated it to have powerful people he would control in charge. Ashley and Scholar in this sequel continue to survive in this new world by getting in bed with these sorry excuses of leaders or gods as they are known so as to try to make this new place better.

If you are not a person who can't stand slow developing stories or rather lack patience, The Turn series books are not for you. The King of May is more exciting and quicker and there is action everywhere compared to The Turn. In this book, we get to have an in-depth look at the characters and their motives. We get to see how much connected the characters are. We get to see the real protagonists and antagonists. Ashley and Scholar set a whole different pace for this book. How they mingle and interact with everyone is just very interesting.

I like how the previous book and this one are different in a way that anyone can read this one and still enjoy it without reading The Turn. Although I understand it can be a problem for serious readers who want to know the story from the beginning because they will be forced to make references since the storyline starts changing after a whole book and chapters later.

Seeing how the storyline changes and things start becoming more exciting and interesting, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. From how the characters grow to the violence and action, everything is so intriguing. Dark fantasy, fantasy, thriller, adventure and sci-fi mix so well that your mind keeps getting blown every time. Also one gets to see or have an idea with how the third instalment will be. But with Matthew Tysz as an author, you should just be ready to be surprised. Either way, I can't wait...I recommend you reading this book, even if you are not a sci-fi fan, you will definitely find something for you in this book.
