Strong Heart by Charlie Sheldon tells the story of a girl named Sarah who went on a journey to the Olympic National Park at Port Angeles, Washington with her newly found grandfather and his friends. She got missing for eight (8) days and had a story to tell by the time she was found.

Sarah's story, told after their second trip to the park, helped her co-travellers to better analyze their beliefs and convictions about the ice age and origin of the North Americans.

She is the one with a strong heart. She was named Strong Heart, during her sojourn in a kind of dreamland. That was the story she narrated after she was found. This name is appropriate for her as a person as she demonstrates strong willpower, and also withstood physical and emotional upheavals despite her tender age. A determined soul not easily discouraged.

I like the book because of Sarah's adventurous spirit and independent mind. She was able to maintain a reasonably balanced attitude despite her troubled childhood. She easily got along with her grandfather and his friends within a short period of time.

However, there was a part of her experience in the dreamland that is somehow unreal, scary and magical. This may be as a result of my personal dislike for anything related to magic or spirits. The English used in the latter part of the book seems a little old and certain things were rendered in unfamiliar terms. Aside these two misgivings, I enjoyed the book.

I am recommending Strong Heart to anyone interested in magic, folklore and history. Also, those that have visited the Olympic National Park or wish to visit the place may want to read it to boost their appreciation of the park.

The book helps us to understand that as humans, our circumstances does not define our achievements if we do not want it to. We can develop our skills and talents if only we are determined to do so and that we can accomplish anything we set our minds on. Therefore, it is important we concentrate on building and fortifying our mind and inner person for greatness and success in life. That way, nothing will stop us from achieving our goals in life.

I am rating it 3 out of 4 stars. The author did a good job. He even gave a map of the area of interest and other places mentioned in the book.
