Knowing one’s origin gives one a sense of belonging. When we venture out to find our roots as individuals we get to know more about our families, traditions and culture. In Strong Heart, Sarah is sent to live with her grandfather who knows nothing about her. She goes hiking and the real journey begins. She is taken on a long journey through the forest by people that she later leads during the adventure. The land of magic, history and legend brings to life old stories told long ago by people of her tribe.

The stories, adventures and discoveries with the novel make it very entertaining. Charles Sheldon, the writer, uses very descriptive and vivid visuals for the various events happening within the novel which I find really interesting. The flow of the events within the novel is also really good.

I personally grew up listening to folk stories from my elders which I loved and miss. When we all used to gather around and seat down just to listen to stories. Only when you grow older do you appreciate those times. Just like Myra told Sarah the story about her great great grand mother that was waiting for her and her father all a long. Her great great grandmother was almost blind and had no teeth but her voice was strong and clear. She told her family stories that were long passed on to her.

I find Sarah's journey beautiful and I challenge the younger generation to try and find their roots in terms of families and traditions. It may sound boring and probably a dreadful thought to have but you are not alone! Sarah hated everything to do with her grandfather but it not only changed her life but that of her grandfather Tom as well. Give it a try and let us know how it ends.

The book primarily focuses on proper preservation and handling of reserved land and artifacts. The maps of the real areas discussed within the novel are included at the beginning and can be referred to any time by the reader. Will Tom, Sarah's grandfather prevent the distraction of the magic land? Read, you will find out!

Overall Strong Heart is a good novel. It’s one I recommend for the people that love history, adventure, stories and artifacts. I rate this novel 3 out of 4 stars for its lack of an introduction. Other than that, I believe it’s a lovely book.
