Cross Intents—The Battle by S.R. Wells

Imagine living when the Son of God walked the earth. Book 3 of the series gives the reader that experience. Jesus starts his ministry with small crowds of people. The disciples travel with him on foot and by setting out on boats to the towns. People flocked to hear about him, and many brought the ill and disabled to receive healing. The writer beautifully portrays the love emanating from Jesus as he speaks and touches the infirm.

Throughout the trilogy, Elric, the angel, and his companions protect Jesus as a child. When he is an adult, they travel and follow with the disciples, sharing marvelous miracles as the crowds increase. The story follows Jesus' ministry, his capture and death, and the moment he ascends to heaven. The writer brings it all alive, even for readers familiar with the Bible's story. This series is truly a treasure.

I loved the conversation between Jesus and his mother, Mary, in the early days before his ministry, when the wine was running low at the wedding. Another story stands out: while the disciples fished all night with nothing in the nets, Jesus told them to cast the net again. Elric and his companions held the nets so they would not tear. There were so many fish that the boats were almost overflowing. The characters were fully developed, especially the disciples who followed Jesus with awe and reverence.

I did not dislike anything about this book. I only wish there were illustrations. Upon reading the book, I was able to discern its professional editing. I found only one error, and that did not affect my rating. Everyone interested in ancient history would like the series. This book deserves the top rating of 5 out of 5 stars. Although it is not necessary to read all the books in the series, reading the entire series will provide a complete account of the life of Jesus, as told by the author's memorable stories.
