"That Place of Knowledge"
by Philip Alan Shalka

The story is about a man whose name is Philip. He struggled with autism. A dog was donated to Philip by "Dog Guides Canada." Philip's dog's name is Sabre, a service dog. Philip's dog Sabre followed him everywhere. Sabre was a good companion for Philip. Philip had a team of therapists that helped him cope and keep him motivated. His therapists helped him to type a story, and to learn the qwerty keyboard. Philip loved to go on adventures, he would escape through a hatch at the bottom of the pool. In what he thought was "another world" were people roaming the streets. Philip claims there were different rooms within the building: a room that has books and couches and another that has a science lab. Philip found that interesting and educational, as he liked to learn about new things. He had a friend from this "other world" whom he felt comfortable to talk to about anything. This imaginary friend's name was Aristotle.

I felt the book was a very enjoyable read. I can honestly say I can relate to what he went through. I too feel like escaping from the world sometimes. I found the book very interesting to read, it kept me turning the pages.

I think it was a great idea to write this book. I think people need to understand that a person with autism or any other condition is no different to that of a person without any medical condition.

I think it's sad that a person can sit back and judge another person, when in fact a person with a disability can sometimes do things better compared to a person without a disability.

I gave this book a 4 out of 4 stars. The book was nicely done, well written and well thought out. The fact that it was written by an author whom himself has autism is very admirable! Well done! In my opinion, this book definitely deserved 4 stars. Despite the fact people can be judgemental and ignorant, however, I think a person could learn a lot more about autism from this book. Knowledge is everything. I found the book more than intriguing to read, that's why I did not give it 3 stars.

I think this book would appeal more to adults with children that have autism or know someone who has autism. It will definitely appeal to those who want to learn and understand what autism is all about. I don't think it would appeal to anyone who is ignorant or narrow-minded, especially people that have no time for disabilities or accepting them.
