"Strong Heart"
by Charlie Sheldon
One rainy day, Tom and Ruth were married; they had got divorced before Tom went to Vietnam. They had a daughter by the name of Becky. Becky had passed away, she had a daughter of her own; her name is Sarah Cooley. She is now 13 years old. Sarah lived with her grandmother Ruth. Ruth and Fletcher got involved after Tom and Ruth got divorced. Ruth and Fletcher took Sarah to live with her grandfather Tom for two weeks in the summer. When Sarah was at her grandfather's house, she saw camping gear in the hallway of Tom's house. Tom, William and Myra took Sarah along on the camping trip to the Olympic Peninsula, “land of magic and historical legends." A place of ancient people in Washington State. Tom taught Sarah about her heritage. They went to visit Tom's father, Sarah's great grandfather's grave, he buried him there 45 years ago. He covered him with rocks. That's how they did things back then. Sarah also had a great great grandfather his name was Henry David Olsen, he was married to a Native American woman. They had three children.
I liked that the book it was well written and well thought out. The fact that there were many different adventures kept me interested and wanting to read more. I found the book captivating.
I did not like that I could not identify what Native American tribe they were from and one could not really tell what era the story was based around.
What I liked the most about the book was that it was full of different adventures and different cultures. Things from the “Ice age” to canoeing through the rivers and islands. I also like that when Sarah went camping she went with an open mind, she even taught them that she can survive on her own in the wilderness.
What I least liked was that there was no description of the era the story took place and there was no mention of which tribes the Native American belonged to. That's just my feelings, others may differ in opinion.
I gave this book a rating of 3 out of 4 stars The reason I gave the book a 3 is because I thought the book was interesting to read, the story/adventure was enjoyable to read. I would have given the book a rating of 4 if it did not lack the description of what cultures they were and the era the story was based around. I did not give the book a 2 because it had an adventurous feel to it. It kept me turning pages.
This book would suit anybody who loves reading historical/romance/adventures. I think people aged 18+ would be best suited to read and understand properly. Its written in such a manner that I don't think a younger person would understand.
