I have read the book “Best Enemy" by Jean-Michel Désiré. I would like to admit that the book was really inspiring for me. The value this book held for me was the manner in which it proactively intermingled tension with philosophical musing about the nature of humanity, and this was encapsulated by enemies. It is set in apprehensive circumstances; the conflict becomes contemporary when COVID-19 acts as a backdrop.

This book skillfully blends elements of espionage, personal tension, and intrigue with distinct characters: Aurora, Theresa, and Jennifer. Aurora is a quick thinker and hardworking, which is portrayed when interacting with other people in the agency through smart tactics. As the story moves forward, Ghost comes back from a mission very tired but successful. He tells Tara that he arranged a fake passport for her, and they are to fly to the Caribbean the next day. Tara, shaken and overwhelmed, discovers the nature of the perilous trip that lies ahead of them.

The author did a good job generally in discussing how we are affected by our friends and our enemies as well, for which I give it a solid 5 out of 5 stars. The quotes at the beginning, along with different historical figures and philosophers, put the story into perspective and show how adversaries can be a source of growth. I liked the mix of genres—mystery and action—that the novel gives. Measures of covert scientific research and hidden motives augmented the elements of a sophisticated plot and an interesting hero’s development. In addition to making me think about life and relationships, the style of the characters’ communication, especially in critical conditions, kept me tense.

It was also nice how the author was able to incorporate real-world concepts from pandemics and global challenges into the story, making it both adventurous and reflective to me. In other words, the book was a fast, fun read with good aspects and mindful themes, which made me thinkable about my own friends and enemies in life.

I recommend this book to those who enjoy supernatural thrillers and drawn-out character dramas, mystery that mixes history and paranormal with unsettling suspense about fate, love, and the unknown. From my side, the book as a whole was overall worthy, and I didn't find any drawbacks about the book. It’s editing prodigious and perfect; the book had no errors.
