The book, Totem, by Charlie Sheldon is a wonderful story about time and the complexities of mixing the past with the present. This book does a wonderful job of shattering the thick veil that exists between reality and dreams. Sarah, the main character, is a strong-willed teen who has experienced great amounts of loss within her lifetime. One day, she takes a hiking trip with her family and they make several discoveries that shake their beliefs and challenge everything that they think they know about the world. There are many different characters throughout the book, and all of them are connected one way or another. I love all of the different characters that are included within the story. The characters include a suspicious businessman, a wildlife biologist and his troubled niece, a mother trying to make ends meet, and unexpected creatures. They all come together and discovered that there may be much more to the world than they originally believed.

Overall, I really enjoyed reading this book. I loved each of the characters, and the author was able to write them in a way that allows me to relate to each of them in different ways. I also really enjoyed reading about the different geological and historical details that were included in the story. They provided a fresh perspective that made the story much more believable. I also really enjoyed the different themes that were prevalent throughout the story, such as wisdom, determination, willpower, and fight.

There was honestly nothing that I did not like about the book. I did not find any grammatical errors or typos while reading it. This is a testament to the exceptional editing that was completed to the book prior to publication.

I would rate this book five out of five stars for all the reasons I stated above. I really enjoyed the book by this author, and I look forward to reading more books written by this author.

I would recommend this book to any readers interested in geology, archeology, the outdoors, and history with a touch of fiction.
