Comfort in the Wings by Jennifer Collins is the first in the 'Love That Does Not Die' series. It is a novel that deals with loss, grief, and the process of moving on.

"There is not even a word for a loss of a child of any age or a sibling left behind, not like the orphan label when losing a parent or the widow/widower designation."

Larrissa Whitcomb goes through the tragic loss of a loved one with no explanation whatsoever as to why or how it happened. She must learn to rejoin the living and move on. Her work with a company that sells medical equipment takes her on a journey that just might turn out to be exactly what she needs.

I chose to read this book because loss and grief are concepts I have always felt deeply about. I have frequently had to support those who have suffered loss in one way or another, and I have often felt unhelpful and at a loss, as though my words were of no use. I basically wanted to walk in their shoes, and this book gave me a chance to do so.

I liked how the author was able to fully immerse you in Larissa's world and make you feel the same way she felt. It was easy to fall in love with characters like Renee and Isabel; to have and be friends like them is the hope. Often times, I found myself flipping through the pages with tears rolling down my cheeks.

While it was a very lovely read, the pacing towards the end felt a bit rushed, although it wasn't bad enough to affect the overall enjoyment of the book.

Overall, I'd rate this book a 4 out of 5. It was very easy to read, inspiring, and thought-provoking. I would recommend this book to anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one and needs to feel seen and understood. If you've not experienced loss of any kind but want to see into the mind or follow the experience of a person dealing with loss and grief, I also recommend this book.
