We all face various choices in our lives; some are challenging, while others are easier. We sometimes fear that we might look back and regret certain decisions. The situation becomes even more complex when we cannot predict our future feelings about a decision—whether we'll regret it or appreciate it in hindsight. This concept is explored effectively in Marie Fostino's book "Come What May." The story centers around Rose, a woman navigating her roles as a wife and mother, and delves into her experiences, challenges, and relationships with her children and husband. At first glance, this might not seem like an interesting theme for a book, but I was pleasantly surprised and captivated once I started reading.

The story is told in a unique, backward manner, starting in the present and then detailing past events. This narrative technique, with frequent transitions between the past and present, builds anticipation and suspense. The recounting of her past begins intriguingly, and as the story progresses, the past becomes even more captivating, leaving the reader glued and wanting more. It begins by detailing how she met her husband, their marriage, and the start of their family. The book also highlights their challenges together, revealing her emotions throughout. I admired how Rose could acknowledge her conflicting emotions yet still make choices aligned with her preferences.

Several aspects of the story make it stand out, notably its captivating nature from the very beginning. It maintains engagement throughout, lacks dull moments, and grows more intriguing as it unfolds. Another standout aspect was the effective use of suspense. Sometimes, the narrative delves into past events and then abruptly shifts to the present, creating moments of suspense that keep readers engaged and eager to follow the story's progression. It is well-written and well-edited.

The story is undeniably captivating and engaging, leaving little room for criticism. Hence, I confidently give it a rating of five out of five. I recommend it to those looking for a standalone read without needing repeated book visits. However, readers who prefer stories without references to God or prayers might not fully appreciate this book.
