Hunger of the Pine by Teal Swan is a touching story about a girl named Aria who goes through tough times but stays strong. The author, Teal Swan, writes with honesty and care, making Aria's world feel real right from the start.

The book begins with Aria's childhood, where we see her mom, Lucy, struggling as a young parent. Aria ends up in foster care, and the story follows her as she moves from one home to another. It's sad to see Aria separated from her mom, but the author handles it with sensitivity. As Aria grows up, she faces even more challenges when she runs away to Los Angeles. Life on the streets is tough, but Aria never gives up hope. There, Aria meets Taylor, a young guy she finds at a place giving out free food. They become buddies, bonding over their tough pasts. Together, they meet more homeless people in Los Angeles, and the story shows how the new city and friends affect Aria's life.

The author shows us Aria's struggles without making them overly dramatic. Swan tells a story about wanting things, feeling hopeful, and finding love, while also showing what it's like to be homeless and dealing with life's ups and downs.

I liked how well-written the book is. I found no negative aspects in the book. There are no spelling or grammar mistakes in the writing, and the story keeps you interested from beginning to end. The book is professionally edited.

Overall, this is a powerful book about resilience. I would rate it five out of five stars. If you enjoy reading literary fiction that explores the harsh realities of life, this book is definitely for you. Adults are better suited to read this book as it covers themes of intimacy, profanity, violence, and drug use.
