The book, By the Rivers of Babylon, by Mary Glickman is a fantastic fictional book that is full of suspense and surprise. The book is about a young couple, Joe and Abigail, who are transplanted to a town down south. They are determined to create a new home that is completely different from the life they were used to before they moved. In spite of the negative reactions and comments Joe and Abigail received from their friends, they move to Sweetgrass Island after Abigail inherits a house from her aunt. Abigail, who is described as a very beautiful woman, unintentionally draws the attention of Billy Euston, the town’s local womanizer. This leads to trouble when Abigail finds herself fantasizing about being with another man who is not her husband. Joe wonders whether he should be worried about his wife committing infidelity.

I thought the book was very interesting and very well-written. I liked how the author developed each character throughout the book. The author even developed the minor characters. This helped all of the characters to be more relatable and feel like real people. I also loved the level of suspense the author ended each chapter with! This helped to keep me engaged throughout the entire book.

There was honestly nothing that I did not like about the book. I did not find any errors or typos within the book. This is a testament to the exceptional editing that was completed to the book prior to it being published.

I would rate this book five out of five stars for all the reasons I stated above. I really enjoyed this book. I found the story line very interesting and intriguing.

I would recommend this book to readers interested in stories set in the late 1990s, set in southern communities, and books with lots of suspense and plot twists.
