Cameron A. Straughan's The Surreal Adventures of Anthony Zen follows the world of Anthony Zen as he navigates through his absurd and complicated daily life. His world is small yet wide, and his life is simple yet strange. The story takes the reader on a hilariously absurd ride as Anthony Zen lives his life, tackling the seemingly bigger problems that come at him in his own strange yet effortless way.

The book is constructed in a simple manner, and the author has penned an interesting character. Anthony Zen is a complicated person who has a strange habit of forgetting to wear his trousers most of the time. Even though it causes him to be in unpleasant situations, he somehow gets through them easily. He always survives any daily life obstacles that come his way in a rather effortless way. No matter whatever circumstances he finds himself in, he gets through them and is always content at the end of the day. Anthony's parents and his cat Monty are other notable characters in the story.

The best thing about this book is the main character itself. He is interesting and enjoyable. The story is entertaining and hilarious. There were moments when I laughed hard while reading the book. It is a good pick for passing the time and can aid in one's boring times. The author's use of figures of speech is very commendable. There are also some negatives. After the first half of the book, the excitement eventually faded, and it became more and more difficult to read. I had to push through the rest. The book was professionally edited.

The unusual humor and the author's excellent choice of words enhanced the story's enjoyability, all the while making it a unique piece of work. But at the same time, considering its shortcomings, I rate this book 3 out of 5 stars.

This book is not for everyone. That being said, I recommend this to a fun and particularly young audience. They can enjoy and go along with the book. For a more serious and adult audience, it may feel like an unnecessary waste of time.
