Review of Cynthia and Dan
Cynthia and Dan: Cyber War by Dorothy May Mercer is a captivating story of love, crime, and action. The book narrates the prosperous life of Cynthia Patterson and her brother, Glenn Patterson. The two join forces in tracking and disrupting terrorist operations.
Cynthia was familiar with issues of security and personal safety. Hence, it was not a surprise when she joined her brother, a private investigator, in launching a cyber war against terrorists. The cyber war sought to protect children involuntarily engaging in terrorist acts. The mission was difficult, so she hired Timothy Dupre, an intern. Amidst all the chaos, she meets Sky Eastman. But beneath his surface persona, Sky Eastman holds a hidden identity that exceeds what he initially presented. However, their attraction to one another is unbreakable, and she is willing to break off her long-term relationship with Dan McIntyre. Can Cynthia keep her composure while being in a love triangle, flying drones and terrorists on the run? Read this book to find out.
The book is easy to read. It displays simplicity and amateur characteristics, making plot twists more profound. The plot twists kept the story suspenseful and made me want to read more. The book also educates the reader. For example, a conversation between Tim and Cynthia reveals that terrorists disguise themselves behind innocent websites to take the private details of unsuspecting people. This warning made me rethink my hastiness to eliminate pop-up notifications by accepting cookies.
The subplot romance in the story was delightful and captivating. The love triangle between Cynthia, Dan, and Sky Eastman was thrilling and entertaining. Juliette McBride was my favorite character. Though she was a minor character, her personality stood out for me. She had an outstanding charm and nurturing motherly care, making her unforgettable.
Nonetheless, the book needs more sophistication as a spy/intelligence story, especially in Cynthia's role as a personal guard to a Senator. She didn't live up to that reputation in safety conversations and security consciousness. I noticed a few punctuation errors in the book. Fortunately, they did not disrupt the rhythm of the narrative. Therefore, I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars.
The book is excellent for leisure reading. It is a perfect book to pick up after a break from work. The balance between drama and comic relief is exceptional to keep you engaged. I recommend this book to readers who love a good romance, action, and crime-filled book.
