I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book as I found it inspiring and a good reminder to appreciate the people around us. The contributors all focused on the message of prevailing hope. We as individuals are encouraged to challenge the status quo, and with that we have to remember it takes a lot of courage to challenge to do so. These messages reinforced that we should always push ourselves and society to be better. We also have to remember that any act of kindness or courage, whether small or large, makes a difference. We all live on the same planet and we all need to work together to live together. We need to take care of each other and be the stewards of the land. As we experience conflict in the world, we have to remember that dialogue should be used and not weapons. This does not just apply to the world at large but also with the communities we live in and our interpersonal relationships. This serves a great reminder that we do not know what others are going through and struggling with and that kindness and communication will promote the healing we need. We need to be an agent of change in our own communities and this can be achieved through small steps at the beginning by showing compassion to those in need.
We need to level the playing field economically. We cannot have such a large gap between the wealthy and poor. Everyone has the right to live with dignity and in a safe environment regardless of their economic status. We often forget how others are struggling because we become blind by our own possessions. We need to ensure that everyone has the same opportunities in life to achieve their dreams despite economic challenges they are experiencing. We should never give up hope and we will only succeed through cooperation. This book really brings you back down to Earth and reminds you that material possessions are not important, it is how we treat and respect others even if we do not know them personally. For these reasons I rate this book 5/5 as I feel it is an essential read for everyone no matter your age to remind us to be kind and appreciative. I feel like this book can be discussed in school or within the family as a way to promote discussions on how to help improve our communities.
