Daniel had lost his parents at a young age. He barely knew them before they were killed in a ghastly car accident by a drunk driver. Growing up in Connecticut, he had isolated himself from friends. The only person he had was Gramps. Even though it had not been a welcome development, it was a much-needed change when he was gifted a unique dog, Sambuca, as an early birthday gift. Buca disappears, and all clues lead to an illegal dogfight taking place on a farm in Kansas. Daniel embarks on a dangerous mission to retrieve his dog, leaving behind his ailing grandfather. Can Daniel rescue Buca, or would it be too late? Find out in Blood On The Scarecrow by Glenn Canning.

There are numerous positive aspects to this book. The book started out with a lot of action and anticipation. The first scenes featured Sean and Thomas engaging in a little car chase as well as Blair having a slight altercation with her husband. This gripped my attention, excited me, and hinted at more exciting scenes that would follow. Sudden tragedy soon follows, and the anticipation keeps building. I wondered where the story was headed and who was to be the book's main focus at that point.

Overall, my interest was piqued from the beginning to the end. I enjoyed the last few chapters of the book. The epic battle between the good guys and the bad ones was thrilling. Buca's survival instincts and need to protect Daniel, even at the cost of his life, made an impression on me. Dogs, for the longest time, are known to be companions and protectors of man. In this sense, the book captured the essence of having a dog as a pet.

The book was well-structured into 52 chapters. Some of the chapters started with the place and time setting it took place. The book was professionally edited. I could only find a few errors in the book.

There were also things I disliked about the book. One of the major themes in the book is animal cruelty. There are nasty, bloodied scenes of dogs fighting each other just to survive. I could not read the gory details, and I believe readers who are avid dog lovers would find the same difficulties. However, the gory details added appeal to the book and made it realistic. Therefore, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend this book to lovers of crime or detective fiction, and animal lovers.

I wonder about the significance of the Scarecrow. I am a dog lover and the fight scenes would be very difficult to read, but I find the blind loyalty of dogs to their owners so fascinating that this book sounds like a must-read.

This novel sounds like a great fiction book to start off with I love all kinds of genre books that have a good bit too them and leaving you thinking what's coming that gripes the end of the story

I feel like this would be a very sad book. Especially because the boy is going to find his dog that's in a dog fight. At the same time though I think this book would be a good book to read and see if the story ends to be a happy story!!

I can sense now that this is a quality book—heartwarming,
fascinating, impetuous, and precipitate story. An adventure, mixed feelings, mind-blowing scenarios, and exceptional events occur as mentioned above. The review is very pleasing, and it captured our attention and hearts enough to make us want to read it.

I absolutely adore dogs and the lengths Daniel went through to retrieve his dog, Buca also left an impression on me. Dogs, when trained could be the best companions. I can't even fathom how much Daniel was going through being an orphan and having an ail grandfather.
