Review of Cynthia and Dan
Dorothy May Mercer’s novel, Cynthia and Dan: Cyberwar, has 260 pages and 20 chapters. This book is centered around the life of Cynthia Patterson, an undercover security head and personal bodyguard of a senator while disguising as his receptionist. It has themes of suspense, romance, terrorism, cybertechnology, and mystery.
Cynthia is a very intelligent and strong-willed woman who juggled between protecting the senator, eliminating ISIS terrorists alongside her brother Glenn and two computer gurus, Tim and Garth, and being in a romantic triangle between two men, Dan, her boyfriend, and Sky, who is a stranger. An unexpected and questionable event happens at the White House, which changes the trajectory of her life after an encounter with Sky Eastman, one of her admirers. Will this encounter be a setback towards defeating the ISIS terrorists? Will she be able to trust the mysterious Sky Eastman? Is he a part of the radical she is trying to conquer? Will he be an impediment to her 3-year relationship with Dan? Discover it by reading this book.
It's an interesting yet underdeveloped book by Dorothy May Mercer called Cynthia and Dan: Cyberwar. It gave me so much more understanding of cyberwars and defeating terrorists, how they carry out several investigations using several social media applications like Twitter and Facebook, and so much more. All of these were exciting for me, as those were the scenes I was mostly looking forward to. It also provided an insight into the areas of pregnancy and miscarriages. However, I believe the author could have done more in so many aspects, especially in the romantic sections. You would expect the book to be highly centered on Cynthia and Dan’s relationship since the title of the book depicts that, but you’ll be thrown off guard as Dan is mostly an afterthought throughout the novel. I also felt the author could’ve done more with the characterization in this book. I didn’t connect personally with the characters, as she didn’t take time to build them thoroughly.
This book was professionally edited. It was full of suspense, anticipation, romance, and cyber conflicts, but due to a few mishaps, problems with character build, and a lack of thorough execution in this book, I give it a rating of 4 out of 5 stars.
If you like suspense with a mix of romance, I suggest you read this book. I believe it will be enjoyable for those who prefer violence, technology, cybersecurity, and romance.
