Cynthia and Dan by Dorothy May Mercer is a novel themed with romance, suspense and action. The author tells the story of Senator Mike McBride, Glenn, and other amazing individuals.

Cynthia Patterson, the protagonist, was the chief of security for Senator Mike; she was in a romantic relationship with Dan, a policeman, for more than three years. She was on a mission with her brother Glenn Patterson, the owner of Fairfax Private Investigation, to wage a cyberwar against terrorists by using the internet to stop their plan. For this plan, they hired two computer geeks, Tim and Gareth, to assist them. On a fateful day, on her way back from work, there was a serious traffic jam caused by the commotion caused by the drone incident, where a drone landed on the White House. There, she met a mysterious man named Sky Eastman, who made an impact on her life. Was she and her brother able to complete their mission of fighting the enemies of the US by using the internet? Who is Sky Eastman, and what impact did he have on her life? Read the fascinating and engaging book Cynthia and Dan to find out.

I enjoyed the suspense that the book brought to the table; even though the book is a romance novel, it contains intense suspense and action, which makes the book more exciting. The book was fast-paced enough to keep readers excited. I also liked the cyberwar. Although there were international news and events, it wasn’t hard to follow and understand. I appreciate how the book is also informed by problems happening in the world right now, like terrorism and kidnapping, despite being fictional. It was also nice how the author discusses pregnancy issues; it would be educational for adults reading it.

I would have liked the book a lot more if the drone story was discussed more. I noticed the book notifies readers before an R-rated scene, so readers can skip it if they are not comfortable with the topic. Likewise, I disliked that the characters were not developed. The romance sense of the book was a buzzkill, as it felt inappropriate for the maturity of the storyline. The conversations were childish, and the romance was very predictable.

The book is written from a third-person perspective. The book contains profane words and mildly erotic scenes. The book was exceptionally edited, as I couldn’t spot any errors.

I rate the book 4 out of 5 stars due to my inability to keep up with the storyline. I recommend the book to anybody who likes reading cybercrime novels.
