Review of Man Mission
Eytan Uliel's Man Mission is a fantastic adventure tale revolving around the main protagonist, Etyan, and his close pals, Sam, Daniel, and Alec. It spans over a decade and a half of expeditions, each with unique twists and turns. The story follows four young men as they go on a journey to realize their dreams. Since graduating, the four have gone on incredible trips every year, each putting their core beliefs to the test. The author and his three friends have been to several countries over the course of Man Mission's fifteen years, with notable countries being Iceland, New Zealand, the United States of America, South Korea, and Thailand. The four, despite having personal and professional issues, do manage to take a trip together every year with the hope of finding inspiration and motivation to deal with their marital and career problems.
What I liked most about this novel was the author's writing and narration style. The author begins every chapter with two inspiring quotations: one from the Holy Scriptures and another from a well-known philosopher. Such prologues keep the reader interested in the story from the onset till the end. The use of the voyage theme within the book immerses the reader in a series of exciting mental journeys, each evoking different sets of feelings. One of the novel's distinctive aspects that struck me was the characters' journey through their pain, fear, and trials. The inclusion of maps, which provide further details on the locations Etyan and his buddies visit, makes this book entertaining and educational
Despite Etyan Uliel's Man Mission being a profound and fascinating book, there were a few negative aspects that I disliked. The protagonist remains nameless throughout the entire book, which results in a lack of emotional attachment from the reader to his pain and struggles.
Etyan Uliel's Man Mission was expertly edited, with no errors impacting its readability. The writing and narration style of the author are essential elements that make this book stand alone. I really like how the author uses the characters to explore ideas like parenthood, friendship, and the value society places on fathers. The characters were fully developed from the start, and it’s their growth over the years that makes this book enthralling and entertaining. Despite the numerous positive aspects of this novel, the few negative aspects cause me to deduct a star. Consequently, I rate this book four out of five stars.
I highly recommend this book to readers interested in travel adventures, and more so to male readers keen on improving their fatherhood and parental roles.
