“Entanglement, as a part of quantum physics, tells us that two particles can be directly connected even across vast distances. Tests have been done showing that two particles more than one kilometer apart are somehow connected to each other. It defies any logic." - Martin Case.

Gravitating towards the theory that everything, somehow, even in the most minute way possible, is connected, Entanglement by Jack K Danenbarger is a work of fiction which opens with Geena Nuss, a middle aged woman, receiving a letter from an old friend. The contents of the letter begins with news of her father's death. Geena is devastated, but not for her father, no. She is devastated because of the remainder of the letter and what it meant.

In the following chapter, the story of Beth begins. She seems to be the one thread connecting the entire book together. Beth's life starts off very difficult and this, at some point, makes her take the path of prostitution and reliance on drugs for her survival. Some time later, she meets Joe Tink, who rescues her and cares for her for some time before encouraging her to sail with acquaintances of his, in hopes that she could begin a new life. The two stay friends for a long time after and for some reason, their lives always seem to intersect with each other.

Furthermore into the story, several other characters are introduced, including Martin Case, a mathematician and a physicist, who is working on the theory of Entanglement, which in other words, is the theory that everything is connected. Along the line, this theory seems to be proven over an over again as the lives of Beth, her daughter Geena, husband Kevin, son Davis and even Joe and several others are intertwined.

The book takes us back and forth in time, carefully introducing new characters or showing us different points in the lives of the old ones. Every one has their own past and secrets, some of which are inclined towards darkness.

I must say that this book is one of the best I have ever had the opportunity to read. I cannot pinpoint what exactly it is I am drawn to the most. Perhaps it is the storyline or Danenbarger's exceptional characterization or how much relatable their messy lives are. Perhaps it is just the entire concept of Entanglement itself, and the thrilling possibility that everything is connected. I enjoyed every bit of the book. The suspense kept me absolutely hooked. Although it contains time jumping which might eventually become confusing to some, I found it very easy to follow and understand because of the author's labelling of each time frame at the start of the chapter.

I found no negative aspects of this book and have reasons to say it was very well edited. I therefore give Entanglement a five out of five stars.

I would recommend this book to an older or nature audience as it contains some sexual and profane content. Anyone who enjoys a good crime story can also read this.
