JT’s World is a Western story and the last of 5 books in the JT series written by E. Alan Fleischauer. John Thurgood Thomas, also known as JT Thomas, the protagonist is a wealthy man who decides fulfill his dream of opening a complex, a world of his own, that will provide services and entertainment like doctor’s offices, saloons, hotels, bowling alleys, theaters and carousels for adults and children. Unfortunately the opening day for the complex doesn’t go as planned. Several of his workers are killed that day. Saddened by these turn of events, JT and his workmen venture to another state to purchase cattle and get his mind off the tragedy, leaving the complex in good hands. To and from his journey, JT interacts with interesting fellows from outlaws and lawmen to love interests and new friends.

It is like a classic western, similar to watching a movie on TV; it’s slightly nostalgic and yet very different. There is lots of action, adventure and romance, all intertwined with backstories of various characters. Told in almost anecdotes, with short and detailed chapters, it’s easy for those who find reading a 475 paged book to be daunting. The third person narration allows for every character’s perspective to be said and their emotions to be felt, matching with each of their backstories. JT Thomas radiates kindness and generosity as seen in numerous scenes where he just helps total strangers in desperate situations, making him the perfect central character, especially amidst all the evil the outlaws bring.

Rather than flashy writing with long-syllabled and difficult words, the author opted for good writing; humble words like crimson or dark red are seen very often and covey meaning to the work of fiction which is really necessary for such a genre. Imagery is very much used and is striking to the point that the 5 senses are engaged like E. Alan’s description of the pig being roasted in open fire and the great smells that come with the sauces smeared on it, or the taste of cold beer that cowboys had in saloons after riding for hours in sweltering heat and the feeling of watching someone die in front of you with the scent of death that comes with it.

The author also manages to splice in a bit of history and fantasy with his slight references to the Civil War that happened in 1861 and Mansa Musa, an ancient Mali king known for his riches. JT’s interaction with the Indians features one of the Indians shape-shifting into an eagle to steal JT’s hat when he’d refused to give it to him. There are a lot of killings and immoral acts like prostitution and rape therefore the story can at times be uncomfortable to read, but it does depict how the lives of cowboys and criminals were hence it’s a very significant and relevant aspect. All in all, the novel was well-balanced with beautiful writing. It stands on its own i.e. one doesn’t need to read the previous installments before getting a glimpse of what JT’s World will talk about. In fact the opposite happens; this work of fiction will have you wanting to read the other installments.

The book is professionally edited. I found only one mistake thus along with all that is mentioned above; I give the rating of 5 out of 5 stars. It is a great story and I enjoyed it all. I definitely recommend to people who relish Western and those who feel like trying something new from their usual romance or action stories but like I said, there are a lot of killings and immoral acts; for some sensitive people it might not be the best to read this kind of novel.
