Visiting With An Angel by Jerry A. Greenberg is a book about a man troubled with returning to his community. It's written in first-person perspective and features supernatural events.

Jerry is an older adult who lives apart from his family. His wife is deceased, and his children live far away. Jerry is from a Jewish background but doesn't feel like one. He wonders if human beings are born with blank software so that they can create their paths or if they are born already programmed to follow a specific path created by their ancestors. Although Jerry convinces himself that he's okay, there's a problem somewhere. This makes him visit his parents' graveyard. He then makes friends, listens to their views on ancestral beliefs, and realizes everyone is firmly tied to their culture. Surprisingly, an angel starts appearing to Jerry, and their main discussion is about what Jerry believes about his ancestors. Jerry has to face reality before it is too late.

The book sensitizes readers about going back to their communities. It is a powerful message because all groups of people have something that defines them, something that existed long before they were born. There's an urge to keep that something alive. Certain life events might result from our disconnecting from who we were meant to be. Therefore, readers will learn one or two things that will awaken a desire to reconfigure their real origin ties and the relation between them and those who surround them.

Furthermore, I liked how Jerry A. Greenberg blended direct speech and narration to keep his story lively. The narration was also eloquent and expansive. The author used common vocabulary that is easy to understand and perfectly thought out in his sentence structure and paragraphing. In addition, the book features some supernatural instances. For example, an angel appeared to Jerry, and they converted. That brings more inquisitive thoughts to a reader's mind, thus making the book more attractive. Also, themes in this book are relatable to readers. For example, readers are well acquainted with the family, faith, and many other topics tackled in the book. Lastly, the emotions in the book are physical. I felt Jerry's loneliness away from his family, which made my time reading this book worth it.

I didn't encounter any negative aspects in this fantastic book, so I disliked nothing about it. It was exceptionally well-edited and had a tremendous flow. Therefore, I rate Visiting With An Angel 5 out of 5 stars. I recommend it to lovers of ancestry norms stories.
