Sip Lake by Joe Basara is a Romantic comedy fiction about the life of 27-year-old Owen Cloud, who moves to a new town and gets a job as an orderly at the town hospital. Working in a hospital, Owen got to meet and interact with different people of different personalities and learn new things about life, love and people. Owen wasn't the "every girl's dream" type of guy, he was rather average but considered Himself as ugly, saying he had a nose that looked like a second pair of eyes. However, he hoped that some girl would see past his "homely peel of skin to some beauty in his heart within". Particularly on His first night on the job, He met a girl, Tina Gardenia, and seemed to fall in love with her after their first conversation. He thereafter tries everything to get her attention, hoping to get a chance at love.
As Owen goes through life in a new town with a new job, would he eventually get the girl of his dreams, or does life have other plans in store for him?

I found the character Owen Cloud, as a very interesting one. He had a loveable personality. He was kind, loyal and trustworthy and I enjoyed the way he related with patients in the hospital. He also had a great sense of humor and never missed an opportunity to throw in some lines of humor at some points, or how he cuts into songs and sings to himself with lyrics that were appropriate for the situation.
I found it interesting how Joe Basara portrayed the irony of life's realities, showing how Owen interacted with some patients and developed a certain level of familiarity with them then a few days later, they sadly die. Just like Owen, it made me look back on life and acknowledge it's fragility as well cherish having it as a precious gift.
I also liked the funny names Joe gave the characters, like Leo Sargasso, Mrs Wheezer, Minnie Many Eyes and most notably Cray Fisher.

What I didn't like however, was the abrupt end of the book. It didn't give me a chance to really enjoy the ending and it left me with some questions. I would say that the book was professionally edited as I found only a few grammatical errors, while reading.

I therefore rate this book 3 out of 4 stars and 4 out of 5 stars basically because I expected more to the ending than what I got and for the minor grammatical errors.

I recommend this book to lovers of Medical romance like myself, and anybody generally looking for a good read.
