Joseph Basara's writing style is very commendable and his ability to paint vivid images and evoke emotions effortlessly was quite apparent to me from the get-go. Sip Lake tells takes the reader on a journey of self-development, acceptance and growth. The story follows the life of a young man trying to find his way in life with a new beginning in a beautiful town called Cypress City. Long before finishing the book, I concluded that the story of Sip Lake deserved to be shared with the world.

Several social issues and human struggles were indirectly addressed, all while keeping the reader entertained and this was the main highlight for me. Also, the writer was able to make me appreciate the persona's passion for art and nature in every single chapter. I really enjoyed being mentally transported to Sip Lake through the very vivid descriptions of the scenes and the metaphoric images really brought the story to life. One of my favorite examples of this was the first painting that Owen admired: "Cypress trees stretched from one end of the wall to the other, above a body of water. Sitting atop one of the cypresses, a snow-white egret was spreading its wings, as if about to fly up through the ceiling." As a poetry and art lover, I smiled at this and was immediately hooked. The romantic aspects of the story were also very engaging and evoked empathy in me for the characters- this is something that makes a book amazing.

While I really enjoyed reading Sip Lake, there were at least two things that I did not like. Firstly, When I first began reading this book, I was a bit skeptical about the speed and progression of the story, especially the scene progressions and the dialogue. This I got accustomed to after learning about the characters, however, the quick jumps between events might be confusing to some readers. Secondly, I noticed that the author did not include a table of contents in the book.

I rate this book a three out of four because the story itself is very interesting and emotional and it is hard not to empathize with the characters and their personal lives. I should add that it is also well edited, and I did not notice any errors.

I would certainly recommend this great book to romance novel and drama novel lovers.
