Review of The Unlikely Cowboy
TITLE: Unlikely Cowboy
AUTHOR: James E. Doucette
GENRE: Western Fiction, Adventure, Romance.
Sergeant Joseph D’Angelo was a great cop who worked in Brooklyn's police department. Joe had experienced so many losses in his life, starting from the loss of his parents in 2010, then, in 2012, his wife, Anna, died of cancer, and his son, the following year, was shot in action. Although Joe wasn't taken into depression by this, he stood strong and worked as a police officer. His junior officers loved and respected him. But one day, everything changed because he was wrongly accused of shooting a person. This was when his life would take a new turn.
I must commend the author of this book, the author wrote so wonderfully well. Although I am not a big fan of books about cowboys and ranches, this book is spectacular. This book was written from a place of heart, I felt it when I read the love that Joe and Megan shared. Life always has a way of putting one down, but it is left for one to choose either to stay down or stand up. This was exactly the case for Joe at the beginning of the book, I loved the way he handled everything and responded positively. I think society should learn that skin colour is not a justification for committing a crime, no one is above the law. Joe did great by being a responsible cop trying to fight against vices. Kyle Mitchell was a great friend to Joe, I loved the character. I loved the fact that he stood by Joe when Joe wasn't having everything going well with him. I also love Kyle's sense of humour, it was top-notch, I always laugh at the character's part. Characters like Rowdy are the type that inspires the world that the only place disability is, is in the mind. I loved that, regardless that Rowdy had a disability, it didn't limit him from doing anything. One's past doesn't define who one is. I also love that the book has a little Spanish in it and I love Spanish.
One thing I detested about the book was at one point the storyline was slow and boring, but the author had a way of hooking up the reader's interest with Joe's and Megan's love story. There was no suspense, I would have loved it if there was.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because of the slow storyline and there is no suspense. I was expecting a little suspense from the book.
Due to the romance, the actions, and adventure that the book contains, I will recommend the book to people that love reading romance and adventure books. And also, I bet any young adult that loves reading about cowboys would find this book interesting.
