Our protagonist, Joseph D’Angelo finds himself in a very rough patch in the entirety of his life. Immediately after losing both his parents in the same year, his wife follows shortly after two years and his only son, the following year. Joseph thinks he has found happiness after relocating to Canyon, Texas from Brooklyn, New York, but he learns that the shadows of his past has followed him. Nonetheless he has something worth fighting for and he is not giving up that easily. This book does not contain explicit sex scenes but there is some violence. Are you dealing with a loss of family or you simply want to enjoy the beauty of Texas? Read The Unlikely Cowboy by James E. Doucette to find out more about the unrelenting vigor of human spirit in the face of tribulation.

This book is a practical loss survival day to day story that will greatly help those who find themselves in the same situation. It shows the internal battles which ultimately affect his choices and actions, which Joseph goes through each day in the process of healing and moving on and I love that about the book. James did a wonderful job at character and demographic development. It has a dynamic set of characters from Italians to Black races, who have been beautifully and well introduced to us and not just thrown in. I could easily visualize the vast acres of land, the horses and stables, the cows and ranches, the mountain side, the landscape. The book has Italian and Mexican mafia gangs, so if you are a fan of Italian mafia stories, please do not hesitate to hop in. This is all so very well balanced and well blended in together which made this book all the more enjoyable and an interesting read.

I honestly could not find any major negative aspects of this book as it was thoroughly well edited. Each paragraph presented its own topic and as I said earlier, the book was well cultivated.

The practicality of this book, it’s plot and setting that brought it together as a whole was so beautiful and exceptional that I am moved to rate it a 4 out of 4 stars . I could not give it any lower rating because even the violent scenes did not remotely take away from the mesmerizing and compelling nature of this book.

I recommend this book to anyone dealing with a loss of a loved one especially a child, a partner or close family or anyone seeking to enjoy the beauty of Texas. They would highly appreciate the choice of words used in this book alongside finding rapport in their journey to heal.
