Review of The Weed Lady
The Weed Lady by Shea R. Embry is a book that touches on many important topics, like relationships, friendships, family, domestic abuse, and lots more. The main character, Jesi, is a strong-willed and free-spirited young woman who becomes obsessed with a woman she sees pulling out weeds in her front yard. Nicole, Jesi's girlfriend, Rachael, and Jules (their friends) tried to call her attention to the fact that her obsession with "The Weed Lady," as they named the woman, is unhealthy. But Jesi, in her true nature, ended up being mean to them and it affected her relationship with Nicole and her friendship with Rachael and Jules. Jesi then decided to make amends and surprise them with something that would make them forgive her. Was Jesi able to fix her relationship and friendship with this surprise? Did she overcome her obsession with the weed lady? Find out how the weed lady changed Jesi's life and how she relates to people.
I liked that the book touches on several issues happening in the world today. I admire Jesi's character development. Even though she's so used to always getting what she wants and always has the worst opinion of people, I liked that she changed for the sake of love and friendship. I learned that we shouldn't judge a book by its cover, and even though we might see some people as weird characters, we shouldn't judge them by this because we don't know what they've been through in their past. I liked how Nicole, Rachael, and Jules accepted Jesi with her flaws. They showed the true meaning of friendship. I also learned that we need to pull the roots of the weeds in our hearts to become better people.
I found nothing to dislike about the book. The storyline was captivating, and it flowed without glitches. I enjoyed myself while reading it. Even though Jesi can be stubborn and strong-headed most of the time, I liked how she fixed her relationship with her mom and became a better person. I also admire Rachael for allowing herself to love again after her divorce. I only found one error while reading the book. This book is professionally well-edited.
I rate this book four out of four stars because it is a good read. It showed the effects domestic abuse has on a person and why the abused person should get help on time because of the emotional damage it might cause them in the future.
I recommend this book to people on a journey to self-discovery, people who love books on relationships and friendship, and people who are being abused or have been abused and are trying to find a way to heal. However, it is unsuitable for children because of the profanity. It is also not suitable for people who are sensitive to LGBTQ issues.
