Review of President's Day
President's Day is a fascinating novel written by Stephen A. Werbel. It presents the story of an old lady who performs an action that brings about a reversal in her life and the whole world. Mrs. Slyvia Parrish assassinates the corrupt president, and suffers amnesia of the action thus, bringing her into a state of despair. Fortunately, the murder case turns out to be a celebrated one.
The author presents the story in a grand style, making use of flashbacks to explore Mrs. Slyvia's traumatic, agonizing, and heartbreaking experiences in her early stages of life. He also uses foreshadowing to project future events, therefore weaving the story into a beautiful and creative piece.
The story begins in medias-res as the plot unfolds, with the protagonist trying to bring back her memories. As the story progresses, she remembers and admits the charges leveled against her. Though the homicide deserves a dead sentence, the author makes his readers to deduce their own judgement about Mrs. Slyvia's imprisonment. He paints an emotive picture which gives the audience the ability to feel and go through the protagonist's situation.
I admire the realistic portrayal of characters and events in the text. The characters of Mrs. Slyvia Parrish, Dr. Ariyoshi, and Bar. Robbert Harding was uniquely and well portrayed. They played distinct but related roles that harmonized and made the text a remarkable one. Mrs. Slyvia's court case also serves as an exposition of the processes involved during crime cases. It sparks up anxiety and sustains the reader's interest to know her final judgement.
I also cherish Mrs. Slyvia's courage to withstand the tough moments of her life. Her bravery and courage to take such action made even the demonstrators gather in Washington, D.C.,Honolulu, and the entire world to pledge their support for her. This gave her a sense of fulfillment and satisfaction. Taking an action that people could recognize, encourage and celebrate her for the first time, brought about changes both in her relationship with Abe her husband, and the entire country.
There is absolutely nothing that I disliked in the text. The book has 47 chapters with no errors. It is well structured and properly edited. The actions are fast-paced and every page of the novel turns out to be enthralling. With this, I give it a rating of 4 out of 4 stars.
I recommend this book to young readers who love engrossing and motivating novels. The story motivates and brings to light ways of becoming resilient in difficult situations.
