Review of Randy the Irresistible
S.M.Goodier's Randy the Irresistible is a fictional novel centered around Randy Love, the charismatic, young black sheep of his family, and his journey to finding his place in the world. The author cleverly makes the reader root for his charming yet slightly absurd and immature protagonist throughout the challenges he faces from finding a job to becoming a victim of credit card fraud and the many humorous antics Randy does as he comes to terms with being an adult and becoming a mature human being.
Familial bonds, responsibility, British humor, his selfish acts at times, and Randy's unfailing desire for women and vice versa make this read much more enjoyable than my initial expectation. His connection to his father and siblings who help him grow as well as his growth from being a college dropout to moving around from job to job wherever higher pay exists while maturing with each challenge life throws at him. Although fictitious, there is a sense of relatability to the character and how we must always forge our own path in life and be responsible for our own growth, regardless of our familial background. His journey was inspirational as he comes to terms with co-existing and finding happiness with others rather than being a self-absorbed man to those who care for him. We also see him grow from being a ladies' man to finding love - but would he be able to maintain a stable relationship with a mature woman? Find out for yourselves! Surprisingly, the author made me care for Randy nevertheless. I do encourage anyone who enjoys a good British comedic read to pick up this book, you might be surprised yourself at the insight and humor it holds.
Although the crude portrayal of women and other sexualities irked me personally it might be an excellent read for another. It would also require another round of proofreading for the best finish as well as perhaps more insight into the other characters as well since it felt a little too monotonous to focus solely on Randy and at times made me lose interest, therefore I rate S.M.Goodier's Randy the Irresistible 3 out of 4 stars.
The book contains minor profanity as well as the initial sexualization of women by Randy which might put off some readers. The British humor was on point and easy to understand even to a foreign reader. This book is unsuited for those under 18 as it contains explicit scenes.
