Randy the Irresistible is a novel written by SM Goodier. The main character is Randy, a family member and a common denominator of the Love family whose unspoken goal is to assist him in attaining a mature and responsible state of adulthood.

John Love is the father of James, Harriet, and Randy. He is the family member who is most reluctant to assist Randy when he repeatedly returns as the proverbial "bad penny."

Marjorie Love, model wife and mother, expected all members of her household to conduct themselves in a proper way. She died while Randy was very young and therefore did not have an opportunity to influence his life with her expectations of honest and virtuous living.

Harriet Love, Randy's sister, is a corporate executive who lives the "good life." But she does not mind sharing her good fortune with Randy when he inevitably asks her for a favor. It seems that she actually enjoys rescuing him once in a while.

James Love, Randy's brother, is a determined and success driven attorney who has a soft side: he adores his wife. He is a practical man who occasionally bends his rules in order to help Randy out of a difficult situation. Although James does not disparage Randy in any way when he accommodates him, he does strongly remind Randy of the expectation that he should develop a more responsible approach to life.

Randy is described by his multitude of friends and acquaintances as a womanizer and an opportunist who tries to manipulate every situation to his advantage. Randy's glaring character flaw is his preoccupation with sex and his use of it to get what he wants from women whether it is a place to spend the night or just for the short-lived thrill of the conquest.

Michael Goddard is a longtime family friend and unofficial advisor to Randy who often calls him about some predicament that he cannot resolve. Also, Michael Goddard acts as a sounding board for Randy regarding his various financial schemes and failures. In his role as advisor, Michael often drops bits of wisdom into their conversations; thus, Randy occasionally finds a solution to his problems.

These are the cast of 'supporting' characters whose personality traits and relationships with Randy tend to magnify his irresponsible and shortsighted viewpoint of life which they hope to change.

Although the drivers of the story are dialogue and descriptive narrative, SM Goodier, the author, employs convincing interactions between characters. Their interpersonal relationships are sometimes comical as they try to figure out the best outcomes to social gatherings, such as scoring with the ladies. The author crafts very vivid scenes and settings wherein his precise timelines create a natural flow of events that take place within these settings.

The author's craftsmanship of the novel allows it to encompass multiple genres: eroticism, comedy and fiction. The use of the hybrid genres increases the novel's appeal to a broader cross-section of readers.

SM Goodier's use of the vernacular in relation to place and setting is consistent throughout the novel and a dictionary or list of uncommon expressions is provided in the back of the book.

I do not have anything negative to share about the book.

This novel is so well written that I have rated it 4 out of 4 stars.

I recommend this book to those who enjoy comedy, eroticism and fiction. This book should be read by a mature audience, only.
