Grit and Granite, by Katherine Lee Johnson, is a novel about disloyalty, greed, and family relationships. This book follows a new and upcoming lawyer, Colin Ford, who is hired to take care of a foundation and other legal matters for a man named Alex Hughes. When Alex Hughes passes away, his lawyer and family is left fighting for his foundation from greedy people whom Alex thought were his friends. While Colin is helping fight for the foundation, he also has to deal with his own family issues.

I enjoyed this book because it was very descriptive. The reader can imagine what a place looks like because of the fabulous descriptions the author included. It was a good story with some twists and wasn't too predictable. I also liked the characters and their relationships in this book. Although there were some characters I didn't care for, others made you look forward to something good happening for them. The importance of family is also included in this book.

What I did not like about the book was the errors of saying some of the sentences twice. Sometimes the grammar wasn't correct and I would have to re read the sentence to figure out what it was trying to say. I also didn't like how everything moved so fast. I would read a paragraph and then it would go to a whole other topic without notice which would make me think that I missed something. I had to go back a couple of times to make sure I wasn't skipping any parts of the book.

I rated this book a 2 out of 4 stars. This book received this rating from me because although it was a good story, it lacked proper transitioning. The errors were also obvious and I had to figure out what the author was saying by scrambling the words or adding the proper words myself. I also gave this rating because I was left wondering what happened to certain characters from the book because they wouldn't be mentioned again or would be left hanging.

I recommend this book to anyone who loves court trials and greed but with a good outcome. Anyone who knows anything about law or who has been through something where someone you trusted betrayed you. This book does contain a suicide trigger so if anyone is triggered by suicide, you may want to skip this book.
