Elijah Oladimeji's Pastoring is Not What You Think centers on a man of faith working for God as a community pastor. The author tells the story of Pastor Job's relationship with God and his family. He is a dedicated servant of God who takes time to attend to the needs of the people in his community; he does this regardless of whether or not they are members of his church. Pastor Job shares in the burden of the people he comes in contact with, and he stands firm in faith even in the face of the most turbulent storm. With the expiration of his rent and the landlord's consistent request for renewal if he is to continue staying on the property, and his wife's constant nagging for a new car, Pastor Job's faith in God is put to the test.

Pastor Job's strong faith in God was the highlight of the book. Also, I learnt a whole lot of lessons from his character. He navigated through situations that would have caused the regular Christian a panic attack with so much ease. I love how he always dispelled fear by putting his trust in God. It was inspiring to see how he instructed the people that came to him with their challenges to put their faith in God because he never fails. His relationship with people had an element of humour to it, and I loved that about the book as well. I love that Pastor Job was a family-oriented man and was willing to make a lot of sacrifices for his family even though lack of funds limited his ability to do so.

I didn't like that the book had a handful of grammatical errors. I counted about four errors, which affected my reading experience a bit. I didn't like that the author dragged the explanation of some biblical passages throughout a whole chapter. Also, some scenes dragged on for a long time before coming to a conclusion, and that made those parts of the book monotonous. I found the book a bit confusing at the beginning because it started off discussing matters that are unconnected to the central theme of the book.

I rate Pastoring is Not What You Think 3 out of 4 stars. It was professionally edited. I generally enjoyed the book, but the negative points I mentioned above made me remove a star. I didn't remove any more stars because the funny parts of the book compensated for the not-so-interesting parts.

I recommend Pastoring is Not What You Think to believers of the gospel of Christ Jesus. Any Christian looking to spike up his faith in Christ should purchase and read this book. It would also help improve, build and reshape one's spiritual life.

While lovers of humourous fiction stories will enjoy the book, it's pertinent to state that it is best suited for Christian readers as reference was made to the Bible a lot of times.

Thank you for the detailed review! I know now that I cannot enjoy such a book due to the heavy religious content. Nonetheless, you did a great job and wrote a very interesting review. Well done!

We all have our crosses to bear. Even pastors cannot escape theirs. And they have to be good examples besides. Tough job!

Elijah's ideas and opinions are interesting and logical. The errors are unfortunate.

A book that brings to the fore the difficulty pastors encounter on their line of duty will be deeply insightful. Elijah Oladimeji did a great job right here.

The job pastors have to do is usually unappreciated. I love that this book finally brings all their sacrifices to the fore so they can be better appreciated. I love the character of Pastor Job.

Pastor Job's staunch faith in God has to be my favourite part of the book. I am at a point in my spiritual life where I need a faith propeller. Great review.
