I would rate this book as a 3 out of 4. Strong Heart has a good foundation, but in places I feel like it is lacking. Sometimes it is rather repetitive. It does have a good storyline and mystical feel about it. Tom’s granddaughter that he did not know existed is dropped off at his front steps right before they are to go on a trip to visit his grandfather’s grave. Along the journey, they discuss the problems that are happening in the area and try to find a solution. They cover Native American history in the area. It is an intriguing story at times. It is almost like two stories in one because you have the present story at the beginning then a story from the past at the end. They are both nature based. I feel like I got lost in the amount of people to begin with. The details at times are a bit much. The author focused on the atlatl a bit too much. Also, I do not feel like it was necessary to give all the details for every single day. The story needs more of a push because it is a bit slow for my taste. If you are looking for a book to read on a get away or vacation, I would definitely recommend it. On page 45, there are some quotations missing on a sentence, but other than that I did not notice any punctuation errors. When Sarah goes missing, I feel like they do more talking than they actually do looking for her. I find the names in the middle of the book to be kind of rude and uncreative. “Thin hair”, “Cold Eye”, etc… are not exactly ideal names. If anything, the author should have found Native American names to call them. Also like the rest of the book, I find there to be too many people. I get lost in trying to keep up with all the people because there are too many.
