Kalayla is a story of a young girl who has faced different lessons in life when her Father died. Kalayla enjoy being alone and not hanging out with kids in her age, that is when she met an elderly lady named Lena who also contributed greatly to the flow of the story. She started working little jobs for the old lady and little by little they become closer. Kalayla is living in a small apartment across Lena with her mother named, Maureen, an Irish girl who chose love over family. After the death of her husband, she struggle a lot to provide for her only daughter. Her love for art was replaced with the responsibilities she need to shoulder as a single parent. She works hard and go home late, causing Kalayla feel lonely. The paths of three different ladies with different stories has started to bloom at that point. They shared burdens of one another and supporting each other when one is falling short, especially Lena. They shared meals and have arguments but later on will be resolved because of the bond they have formed. As the story goes on, the secrets of the three ladies will be revealed and cause chaos in their relationship and the way they handle their traumatic past to overcome that problem is truly amazing.

There are lot of good points in the story. Jeannie Nicholas is a good author who gives life to the three ladies in different aspects. Every point of view is also detailed and was delivered neatly. The flow of the story is also smooth. The lessons that can be learn are really amazing. The plot and the revelation are breathtaking. The story itself is magnificent.

In terms of negative part of the story, there is not much to tell. The dialogues are nice but there are few scenes that is not applicable for younger reader but still that is not a negative comment because that scene was needed to complete the story. It is a good story and there is nothing to dislike about it. Jeannie Nicholas is truly brilliant in coming up ideas in her story.

Kalayla deserve a 4 out of 4 stars. The story of the three women is inspiring and it is relatable. I personally like how women are shown in different shades in this story. They are not bland but colorful. The story also show the importance of having a family that would embrace you for who you are and that it is not too late to start again.

This book is recommended to readers atleast ages 12 and above since there are parts that are not applicable for younger readers. It is full of lessons that would help the reader understand the value of life, family and friends. This story would bring you joy, tears and laughter. It is highly recommended.
