Sarah is a 13-year-old girl who was sent by her father to her grandmother’s house, Ruth, in the state of Washington to spend the summer with her when he was offered a job in Europe. Tom is Sarah’s grandfather, and she is brought up to his house by Ruth, his ex-wife, under the pretext that she and her husband had had enough of taking care of Sarah and that now it was Tom’s turn to look after his granddaughter. Sarah arrived at Tom’s house in a bad mood from having experienced a very rough childhood. Her mother had died when she was younger, and she was having issues with her behavior and had been transferred to a special school for kids with behavioral issues. Tom was preparing for a camping trip with his dear friends William and Myra, who were native. They were going to Tom’s grandfather's grave to honor the day of his death and to find answers of an unfinished business that had occurred between them the day Tom’s grandfather passed away.

Upon Sarah’s arrival they were going to postpone the camping trip, however, William suggested that Tom bring Sarah to the camping trip so this could be a time for them to get to know each other and so that this could be a chance for Sarah to meet her great grandfather’s spirit. Will Tom and Sarah build a relationship on this camping trip? Will Tom find the answer he’s looking for on his grandfather’s grave? Will they encounter spirits and ancestors deep in the forest? To find out check out Strong Heart by Charlie Sheldon and get ready to enjoy an adventurous and uplifting read.

This book really points out the importance of family and believing in your roots and where you come from. I think in this day and age, now more so than ever, it is so important to understand and to hold on to where you came from, be proud of it and be able to pass it on to the next generations. It shows the importance of trust and believing in one another and also portraits the importance of being present in your family's lives and not taking it for granted.

One negative thing I can point out from this book is that sometimes you get confused on who is talking and who is thinking in the moment, until you read the response of the characters. You can see this pattern in chapters 15 – 18, to give you an example. It is not in all the chapters, but in some of them. However, it is possible this could be due to the editing of the book. Other than that, the book was very enjoyable, and this didn’t make me lose interest.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. This book is great; however, I believe it can be better edited. Some of the errors found are simple but need to be fixed. Also, I believe it is important to note what I previously stated; sometimes you may lose focus on who is talking or who is thinking in some chapters. Other than that, the storyline is very well carried, and it will catch your interest. I recommend this book to people who are more inclined to adventurous, spiritual, anthropological, and ancestral topics.
