Review of Strong Heart
Unplanned adventures turn to be the most exciting experiences with a lot of life changing moments that can be very good or traumatic. Strong Heart by Charlie Sheldon is a type of book that talks about a usual trip to visit a grandfather’s grave in the Olympic Peninsula that turns out to be an adventure with a mix of traumatic moments with a very good ending.
Tom, planning to visit his grandfather’s grave with a couple of friends is hit with a surprise visit by Ruth who leaves him with a granddaughter ‘Sarah’ whom he had no idea she existed. Left with no option, Tom decides to take his granddaughter with him since he can’t leave her home alone. Everything seemed to be going on well until Sarah disappeared for a week. Sarah’s disappearance led to days of panic as Tom wondered what would happen if they don’t find her. What kind of a responsible parent would take his granddaughter on a trip into the wild when she’s supposed to be in school and let her get lost just like that?
The book is an interesting read from the beginning which talks more about family. I was captivated by the fact that no matter the circumstance, where family is involved there are some important decisions that has to be made. Surprising, the incidents that occur during the trip makes everyone wonder who is taking who on this journey. Sarah, though very young surprises everyone when she draws a picture of a bear she claims to have seen that has been extinct for thousands of years, taking this important historical artifact with her. This offered them an opportunity to learn more about their history, genealogy debates, and much more.
One thing I loved about the book is that the author did some extensive research on the history of places mentioned in the book. The story is not only fictional but very educative as well. With a little bit of self-help aspect the book is a great read for everyone wanting to learn more about self-discovery. The title of the book fits perfectly with reference to the content, the traumatic incidents that happens requires someone with a strong heart that is capable of accommodating such.
Overall, the book revolves around historical fiction and a bit of mysticism and covering animals that are extinct and climate change. This gives a hunger of wanting to know more hence, it’s very engaging from the start. Nevertheless, I give this book a rating of 3 out of 4 because it lacks an introduction of the characters.
In conclusion, I recommend this book to everyone who has a keen interest in historical fiction, mysticism, self-help and adventure.
