Strong heart by Charlie Sheldon is a coming of age historical fiction. When Tom's ex wife drops his granddaughter Sarah to stay with him at a time Tom and his friends are going camping. He needed to go before work was done and the valley changed.
They hiked the trail spending time telling stories and getting to know one another. Sarah still clashed with her grandfather till one conflict led to her disappearance. They searched for days untill she came back bruised and injured. When she recovered what she told them was impossible. Her adventurous journey was of ancient hard times that happened during the ice age. They were used to trade with people from far off place to become wives. The journey through the seas all they encountered, heartbreaking losses they experienced . Sarah's strong and resilient character being recognized.

The story is well written and well researched. It doesn't cause one to doubt the way the story unfolds. The characters are well developed their stories are connected in a way. They show inter generational cooperation. The characters different beliefs makes the story to bring out the possibility of life before the one we know. Sarah's adventures are so thrilling and emotion grabbing learning about different characters. When Sarah's grandfather and their friends trust to follow her at the end and seeing the bear is so uplifting for the soul.

The downside for me is the two times or two worlds the story is in. I would have loved just the ancient times part of the story. Would have loved to see the side of Ruth's story when the past activities that may have caused her daughter to run away came to light. The conflict over the park resolutions, will it be saved or destroyed. That's my only dislike of the story just alot of unfinished stories

Will give a 3 out of 4 rating. The story is a magical showing of the past. The story invoked in me feelings of determination and perseverance, Fear of the unknown and the drive to learn more.

Would definitely recommend the book. Both worlds collide in a fantastic way of the other saving the other. Where a girl is so lost but comes back and is so grown , strong willed and so into her own being. The ancient story lovers are in for a treat the story is as old as dinosaurs so the possibility of life before that is intriguing.
