Shortly after the demise of his career politician mother, Troy Davenport, college lecturer and sole heir to his family's immense fortune, makes a startlingly disturbing discovery about her past. Over the remaining part of the book, Troy would embark on a Sherlockesque investigative mission to uncover the dark secrets of his enigmatic family's murky past. What he discovers is the intriguing story of an epic conflict between an ambitious woman, a deviant son, and a tyrannical patriarch who is prepared to go to any lengths to protect his family's honor and perpetuate its legacy. How would Troy's findings shape his future and his memories of his deceased relatives? Grab a copy of the book to find out.

Breath-seizing suspense, jaw-dropping plot twists, and heart-racing drama, Mitch Engels' The Senator's Suitcase has it all. Told from the perspectives of two different characters, this masterfully written fast-paced thriller is a tale of love, deception, betrayal, secret affairs, dark conspiracies, schemes, and counter-schemes. The author's choice of the stream of consciousness narrative technique serves the story well, as it offers the reader unique access to the key characters' minds. The reader gets to share with them the thrills of discovering new leads and the disappointment of hitting dead-ends, to feel with them the pain and humiliation of defeat and the relief of victory obstacles. This heightens the reader’s emotional connection with the story. For instance, the author's graphic description of a sexual abuse scene, from the victim's perspective, sparked intense emotions of sympathy for the character in question, and a similar level of the reverse sentiment, for her abuser. This writing technique, coupled with the chatty and informal narrative style, keeps the reader wholly immersed in the book until its last page. Flashbacks are also used to great effect.

The diction is generally simple and accessible to persons with basic working knowledge of the English language. Furthermore, the reader will have little cause to complain about grammatical or typographical errors as the text is excellently proofread and edited and virtually no flaws are to be found in the entire book in that regard.

On the flipside, however, instances of the uncensored use of vulgar language do exist, albeit in inconsequential amount, in the text. Moreover, certain conservative audiences might find the author's positive portrayal of same-sex amorous relationships rather upsetting.

I find the book highly entertaining and educative. I also admire the author's outstanding storytelling prowess, and I think that the book's negatives pale in comparison to its positives. In consideration of the foregoing, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.

This book is recommended to all lovers of investigative fiction, as well as to social justice activists. The book would also, no doubt, benefit persons belonging to sexual minority groups, who might find their peculiar experiences represented therein and draw encouragement and inspiration therefrom.
