Review of Dreams Are To Be Lived
Dreams are to be lived. by jerry A. Greenberg is about a teenage boy with a dream to become an artist, bobby leveret who is passionate and have excellent skills in art and want to pursue a career in it but his father is always denying stage for going to college to study art, his father Al leveret manages clothing store and his mother Cindy leveret is a housewife. Bobby is a person who believes the if you have dreams those have to be fulfilled, so he finds various ways to convince his father, in this process one of the arguments between them raised to a drastic turn in his life by revealing the layers of past from his father’s family. Al’s life has been a nightmare because of his vicious and filthy father, he used to abuse his wife and make his children work on their own for financial needs, Al father has a huge amount of money which he hid from his family but Al finds and questions his father which results in a fierce fight due to which Al mental health worsened and is now affecting bobby’s life to pursue his dream, with the father being hospitalized and mentally ill will bobby be able to achieve his dream as an artist? Or he will find a job to support his family?
I liked the character of the protagonist who is stubborn and powerful to pursue his dreams and I also like the turn in bobby’s life after his father is hospitalized and author took time to build the story enabling the readers to understand the dream of bobby and the supporting characters like Carolyn his girlfriend and art buddy who helped in the investigation, his art teacher eline who helped in making difficult decision and the author exquisitely described the attempts bobby used to make to convince his father for joining in art college and the story of the later chapter is very engaging and interesting with every aspect of Al’s past life and the author have chosen very clear and understanding language which is articulate and brief
However, on the other side, I realized it’s slow-paced in introductory chapters, and only after the first quarter of the book started some twists and turns so it detracted my enjoyment a little, but it lets you understand the life of bobby clearly. There are many uncertain situations and the investigative mode in the story which made it more intrigue
There are not any negative aspects but The ending feels incomplete and I feel if the author included few lines about the life of bobby after his father would be more precise and there are some editing mistakes in the first quarter of the book which is a little confusing
I rate this book 3 out of 4. because of some editing mistakes and this book contains some exquisite twists and turns so I recommend this book to readers who are interested in suspense and investigative type of stories and the readers who are sensitive to psychopathic things are not recommended to read this book as it contains some psychopath actions and violence involvement which might affect the people's mental health.
