Review of The Spirit of Want
Lucy Macmiel is a successful lawyer and a determined young woman. She doesn’t get along with her family and is often felt unloved. Lucy meets Luke, an eye doctor who works with her father A.J. They both share some time together on a ride which leads to unlikely happenings. And somehow it led to several meetings and ultimately they ended up marrying. In a matter of days after marriage, Lucy signs up for a case. She falls in love with her client- Hower Bain, who was accused of assaulting an underage girl. She behaves unethically towards her profession and gets dismissed. Lucy abandons her family including her daughter in the want of this man. Hower, a reverend escapes the country in the middle of the case and Lucy flees to Africa to be with him. After a long stay with him and observing several unusual occurrences, she finds out some unpleasant truths.
Will she return to her normal life? Will her family accept her after all that she has done? What happened in Africa?
The Spirit of Want by William H. Coles is a fiction book which depicts the story of a woman whose life was pretty good until she made the wrong choice. The author’s writing style is unique. The story is set up in the 80’s. There are several moments where the unexpected happens. And it keeps you going till the end.
I liked how the book portrayed different emotions of all the characters. I particularly fancied the character of Elizabeth who always shows kindness and love even to those who despise her. She is warm and generous in an exemplary manner when it comes to her sister, Lucy. The relationship between Luke and Elizabeth is appreciated. And so is with Elizabeth and Jennifer.
However, I still have a number of unanswered questions that I feel like it’s incomplete. I did not expect the end. I still wonder what happened to most of the characters.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. Although there were a few typographical errors, it did not lower the content and quality of the book. Yet, I felt some situations to be vague.
The book is recommended to a wide range of audience who love mystery and romance. It also includes a couple of profanity words. So I recommend it to readers of above 18. Also, this book is not suitable for those who feel uncomfortable towards spirituality as it contains a little bit of spiritual content.
