The Narrow gate by John Servant is a book that brings to the forefront, the difficulties of being a Christian in this modern times as well as the struggle to strike a balance between Work and Family. There are 8 chapters in the book and they show the descent of the main character Joe from being a committed Catholic and upright lawyer, to being a corrupt politician and ultimately his fall from Grace.

John Servant introduces us to John Kelly a Pulitzer winning reporter who has been given the assignment of writing the story of former Senator Joe. J by his boss Frank Barry. John Kelly agrees to do the story grudgingly believing the job to being beneath him. But when visits the hospital what he discovers is a story of Power, greed, lust, Faith, love and Redemption that will affect his life.

The Author's pacing, organization and style of narration helps bring out the beauty of the story of a Christian without it being boring or too preachy, while also passing the message across to the readers. John Servant also does a great job of fleshing out characters by giving we the readers insights into how most of the characters think,as well as what drives them into making certain decisions. He takes time to address the struggles to live a good Christian Life without compromising on morals, which I feel a lot of people not just Christians can relate to. I liked the fact that John Servant took time to address Family and Parenting issues in regards to giving kids attention, while trying to provide for the family. The Author also touched on the subject of corruption in public offices, particularly the issue of leaders compromising on their morals and twisting the rules, inorder to benefit themselves.

There are some issues in the book which which need to be addressed for instance, Joe comes across as a bit naive in respect to being asked to join a political part,he goes in wholeheartedly without really giving it some thought, Also his transition from being a man of integrity to a person who would do anything for power was too sudden, particularly due to the fact that most of the change happens in one chapter. It was also not properly explained how John Kelly got so much details of Joes' life. There was a repetition of names which I felt there was no need for.

I would give The Narrow Gate by John Servant a rating of 3 out of 4 stars . The Author does a great job of passing along his message without it being overbearing. There were no grammatical errors in the book but I deducted a star due to some parts of the book being rushed

I recommend this book to anyone who wants to enjoy a good book particularly Christians who are looking for books that will encourage and teach them lessons
