Charlie Sheldon’s Strong Heart, is an adventure novel in which the lives of three people, William and his daughter, Myra, and Tom, are changed by the appearance of a young girl, named Sarah Cooley, one stormy night. Hesitant at first, Sarah eventually comes along with the three adults to hike in Buckhorn, where legends and myths are bound to be disclosed, paving a way to the truth. In this novel, modern data, and ancient pieces of evidence are beautifully mixed, leaving an impression of the old meeting the new.

The novel has few technical errors, although they are quite minimal in that they do not disrupt the flow of the story. It is rich in descriptive scenarios, which seemed to have been deliberately proofread and edited. What I appreciate the most in this novel is the subtle development of certain characters, which I may have assumed to remain stagnant all the way to the end. Such characteristics made me stay curious and engaged in the plot, although I admit I was not exactly impressed by its delivery in the first few chapters. Nevertheless, Strong Heart deserves to be read with a hint of patience and open-mindedness.

As for the improvement area, there is not much to comment on. However, I heavily emphasize the importance of a smooth transition from one chapter to another, especially including the narration of Sarah about her journey with a group of people whom she named specifically, according to their distinct features. It has a significant potential to be more engaging and intriguing to read.

Based on my given assessments, I’m rating this novel 3 out of 4 stars. I believe the novel deserves to be given the time to know about its characters, chapters, and themes. It could have been delivered differently, with a better fluidity, but the content itself is substantial enough that it overrides the errors anyone can possibly notice. It is a novel that can offer either little or plenty of things, which will depend on the reader.

I highly recommend this novel to those who enjoy an adventure with a bit of science and comedy delicately mixed together. It is an easy read but certainly requires an open mind and a patient heart, as the backstories narrated by the characters are filled with interesting imageries. This novel is certainly for both young and old, and experts and fans of archaeology, anthropology, genetics, and ancient history.
