The Reel Sisters is a wonderful story of five friends who bond over their love of fly fishing. The book starts out introducing each of the five characters and their families and each character is given the chance to tell their story. The women come together for long weekends and short vacations to spend time together while fishing in their favorite locations and enjoying each other’s company while sharing stories and enjoying good food and wine.

Each of the women has been invited to join the group by another and perhaps the most entertaining introduction of a new member is when a naked woman is found floundering in the freezing waters of a river, crying for help as she is swept away. What originally looks like a horrible situation very quickly turns into hilarity and downright fun. The four members of the group immediately invite the woman to join their fishing group and the story of their lives takes over from there.

Following the paths of each of the women, we see a wonderful flow of love, companionship, challenge, growth, and even tragedy weaved throughout the pages. The author sensitively deals with a few very real issues faced by so many women including parenthood, long distance relationships, loneliness, women in powerful business positions, loss and self-discovery.

What I liked most about this book is that the characters were each deeply thought out and individual in their personalities. The author, Michelle Cummings, has created five unique characters who each truly care for one another. The humor and genuine love that is shared between these women is soul warming and wonderfully delightful. The fly fishing terminology was what I liked least about the book. While it was very interesting to learn about the sport, it did sometimes feel as if there was a little bit too much detail around the many intricacies of the hobby.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it is truly a wonderful book filled with excellent descriptions and adventures. It is also extremely well edited with very few errors at all. The author has clearly made every effort to make this a book that will stay in the memory of the reader for years to come. This book will appeal to female readers of all ages and backgrounds even those who know nothing about fishing. The reader can easily relate to the characters in the book and will enjoy getting to know them.
