Review by Bukola02 -- The Reel Sisters by Michelle Cummings
The Reel Sisters by Michelle Cummings is a story of how the love of fly fishing brought five different women together. The reel sisters are of different social-economic status, age, ethnicity, culture, and race but are bonded together by their love for fly fishing. The book has ten sections, each titled with a fishing phrase that connects the contents in each section. It was not difficult for readers to follow the stories in each section because the story was narrated from each of the character's points of view.
The author introduces readers to Rose, Sophie, Veronica, and Amanda. Rose is the matriarch and the oldest of the group and has been fly fishing the longest. She owns the cabin by the river. Where the ladies often meet up for a fishing expedition. Sophie is a planner. She plans everything for everyone in her mind. Veronica is the outspoken, self-sufficient, and determined. Amanda is the bubbly one. She always has a beautiful smile. The group was out fishing on a weekend when a young woman’s body was swept downstream toward them. She was rescued from the water and brought up to the cabin. By the end of the weekend, Melody had already bonded well with the rest of the group. Hence, she became the fifth member of the group.
Throughout the book, I was able to uncover complex details of each character and taken on a journey through their lives. The ladies enjoy spending time together and bonding through their love for the sport while constantly helping each other get through their life challenges.
Michelle Cummings's style of writing techniques is flawless. She was able to tell the story in a very unique manner. I enjoyed how she uses emotions and illustrations which fully helped readers throughout the book. I can’t but mention the wonderful humor present in the book. I found myself laughing out a lot. There is nothing I dislike about this book. I can honestly continue to go on and on about how I truly enjoyed reading this book.
This book was professionally edited. I didn’t come across any error which reading this book. I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. This book contains some profanity and little erotic content else it would have been suitable for all readers. I recommend it to readers who love books that focus on growth, friendship, inspiration, and outdoor activities.
