Everyone has that moment when they ponder why they feel stuck, as in “How did I get here?” You look around you, at all of the choices you have made- the ones that have brought you to where you are right now, and maybe you realize that you feel- nothing. Or maybe, you feel sad and lost, like you’re spinning wheels- moving but gaining no ground. You may be full of tension or feeling alone or like you are just going through the motions- doing only what must be done to get you through each day. If any of this sounds familiar, this book might just be the what you are looking for.

Author Kurt Hansen takes us into the world of a man named Sol, who is disenchanted with his life. He is a successful accountant who lives in an upper class neighborhood with his wife and teenage daughter. From the outside, he seems to have everything- a life that seems to be so well honed that it seemingly operates on autopilot. When an incomprehensible tragedy throws him- body, mind, and soul into darkness, he is forced to fight for his life. Sol embarks on a journey that leads him back to his hometown, his estranged family, and old friends. The Gathered clears a path for rediscovery and teaches us that when we face our fears, work through our pain, and forge tirelessly ahead towards our most authentic self, we will find peace from within and discover our own greatness.

Kurt Hansen’s Gathered shows us the human condition in its most vulnerable form. I love how easy this book was to read. It is thought provoking, raw and triumphant all at the same time. On the lesser side of things, there were a few slow parts in the book but they pass rather quickly. I would recommend this book to anyone who finds him or herself at a crossroads or who may be struggling with their own life choices and identity. I truly loved this story, its characters, and its message. This book easily earns a rating of
4 out of 4 stars.
