CJ McCarter has everything she ever wanted. She has a successful career doing what she loves and recently got promoted to President of a University. She’s happily married even though her husband and her only text a few times a year, her daughter is doing great at a premier University, everything seems to be going well and CJ has zero complaints. She mastered her first year as President, and that means that this year will be easier and she can focus on some projects she really wants to see succeed. Everything is paved out to go smoothly and she will achieve great things this year.

But what happens when she finds out her husband and her aren’t happily married anymore? What happens when she finds herself attracted to a young Grad Student that she is supposed to be mentoring for the semester? What happens when one glass of wine, twice a week turns in to multiple bottles every night? Maybe everything isn’t really as perfect as it seems?

For the most part, I really enjoyed reading The Assignment by Don Chance. It read very smoothly for me and I didn’t find any grammatical errors while reading it. There is some profanity and quite a few erotic scenes throughout the book, so I would only recommend this to a mature audience, but none of it came off as distasteful to me.

This was an intriguing book; it is definitely one of those novels you don’t want to put down until you know how it ends. Which is actually what I disliked the most about it, I think things could have happened quicker. The whole time I was reading it, I was waiting for the big thing, and there would be lots of little things before the big thing happens. The author did a good job at making sure you read all the way to the end to get the full story.

The characters are what I enjoyed the most about this book. I especially loved CJ, her quirky character makes her relatable and the way she carries herself makes me respect her. She has a cool, respectable relationship with her daughter, which I believe every mother or daughter would strive to have. The writer did an excellent job with expressing all of the characters and their personalities.

This book will attract all types of readers, it is a bit of a thriller, has a little bit of romance, and focuses on strong friendships and strong people. Overall, I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. It was very gripping and reminds you that all choices have consequences so you better choose wisely. Sometimes things really are out of your control and you have to get things done yourself, in whatever way you can live with.
