Strong Heart by Charlie Sheldon is set in the Olympic Mountains on the Olympic Peninsula of the Pacific Northwest. It is Fiction but filled with history, truth and facts. It encapsulated me from the start. It took me on a detailed journey into the Olympic National Forest. I was intrigued by the ancient ancestral stories linked throughout the book. The detail of landscape including types of trees, rivers, lakes and names were very informative.

The story starts in search of truth and treasures and takes you on a memorable journey that embraces the past and present. The search for truth in regards to the group of native tribes that lived and trod in this land is relentless. I felt their desire and understood the need to know. History and knowledge defines us.

The conflict of change and commercialism in an unspoiled historic land interweaves throughout the story. At times I felt sadness and at times I felt joy. I felt deep respect for the mountains, trees, animals, waterfalls and rivers.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. I was intrigued with the history, facts and knowledge as I ventured into this book. I liked that I felt I was involved in their journey from the start. The intense detail pulled me in. It also taught me to appreciate my own journeys and to learn about the history and truths. It inspired me to always ask and learn and to continue my own adventures. I didn’t give it a 4 because there were three or four chapters that touched on the native tribes journeys through this land that became boring and too long. I appreciated the tangible detail and knowledge but not to this degree. I didn’t give it a 2 because the storyline was very fascinating and definitely encapsulated me. The research and time the author spent on this book was amazing.

This book will appeal to those seeking historical fiction, narrative, fantasy, and adventure. If you desire to learn more about the Olympic Peninsula this book is one you will enjoy. Also, if you feel connected to nature and historical facts this book is filled with such. The author’s personal experiences created a wonderful story teaching the reader with incredible detail.

This book will not appeal to those seeking romance, humor or horror.
